What Power and Water Supply Does a No-Plumbing Sink Need?
A self-contained sink avoids fixed water pipework, but it still needs a source of fresh water, somewhere to collect wastewater and, for hot water, an electrical supply. The exact requirements depend on the system and product you choose, so always check the specification of the unit you are buying.
What electrical supply is needed?
For the Custom Basins standard hot-and-cold system, the water pump is rated at 35W and the heater tap is approximately 3kW to 3.12kW. Complete vanity units are designed to use standard UK plug connections, typically one for the pump and one for the hot-water component. The electrical circuit and socket arrangement in your premises should be suitable for the equipment being connected; if you are unsure, ask a qualified electrician.
How much fresh water does the sink hold?
The standard system can be supplied with 5L, 10L or 12.5L water containers. Many complete vanity units use 12.5L fresh and 12.5L waste containers. Larger capacity means fewer refills, but the best size depends on the available cabinet space and how frequently the sink will be used.
How many hand washes will 12.5 litres provide?
There is no single accurate number because usage depends on flow rate, how long the tap runs each time and what the sink is being used for. A capacity figure alone should not be converted into a fixed number of washes. For a busy business, plan around your own usage pattern and choose a container size that can be checked, refilled and emptied comfortably during the working day.
Where does the wastewater go?
Wastewater drains from the basin into a separate removable container inside the unit. This needs to be emptied appropriately and never allowed to overflow. Keeping fresh and waste water separate is a core part of the self-contained design.
